How are you everyone? Is it going better out there in your life or business or stuffs? I hope you guys are safe and healthy always. It's a long weekend out here, I had no plans to go on a trip so I just stayed home and explored my city's local culinary.
This week I found a local great and unique Soto place for lunch, not really far from my home and it's in the middle of a modern community market. Its name is Soto Kwali Semar. You need to enter the market first to find this place, cause they don't really put a big signage so it's a little bit hard to find them.
Soto is a very Indonesian famous food, it's a soup basically with meat or vegetable broth and has chicken or meat and vegetable as a topping. There's a lot of Soto restaurant, big or small in Indonesia, so you will have a lot to explore.
Why they named it Soto Kwali Semar because they serve it on a cauldron which in Bahasa means "Kwali/Kuali". They open from 7 am to 3.30 PM so it's available for breakfast and lunch and please note this, they are super affordable! Let's take a look to what food they served me yesterday.
SOTO KWALI CHICKEN (IDR 15K) & SOTO KWALI BEEF WITH RICE (IDR 20K)
It combined the soup with meat (chicken or beef), bean sprouts and fried onions. They served it in a tiny portion so I recommend you to order more than one bowl, especially for lunch hahaha.
The soup was beautifully yellow as a sign of rich spices used but the thickness was not exaggerated. The taste was quite light for Soto. It very smelly and tasty, I love it so much. I think the beef Soto is better than the chicken one.
KUPAT TAHU (IDR 25K)
Kupat Tahu is also a traditional Indonesian food made from ketupat (that's why they named it"Kupat"), fried tofu, vegetables and poured with peanut sauce.
The food was delicious and I love their peanut sauce. Not the best Kupat Tahu in town but it's worth to try and also the price is extremely affordable.
Another interesting part from Soto Kwali Semar is they also serve local traditional snacks which already rare in this kind of day. I tried also their tasty Grontol (boiled corn served with grated coconut and sugar) and Lupis (sticky rice with grated coconut and brown sugar sauce) and every bite was a serious heaven, highly recommend to cure your yearning to Indonesian traditional snacks.
You know what, I got a lot of information that Pasar Modern BSD has a lot of hidden culinary gems inside it. So maybe next time I'll go there again to explore more their interesting culinary. See you!
